DAY 1: Istanbul Tour | Historical Sites – Bosphorus Cruise
We will pick you up from your hotel and drive to the first visit of the day. Start your first day in magnificent Istanbul with a tour of the Topkapi Palace, the residence of the Ottoman Sultans for over 400 years. This elegant and beautiful palace sits on the shores of the Bosporus and contains several courtyards and buildings, being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace is now one of the most interesting and luxurious museums in the world, with countless chambers and spaces dedicated to the history and lifestyle of the Ottoman Empire. Following the visit of the Palace, within walking distance, we will visit the Sultanahmet Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, due to its magnificent decorations in the interior. Still being used as a mosque after about 400 years since it was built by Sultan Mehmed I, it has a beautiful and charming architecture, with one main dome, eight secondary domes, and six minarets.
Continuing our Istanbul tour, we will drive towards the Eyup Mosque, the first mosque built in the city by the Ottomans after the conquest of Constantinople, in 1458. The mosque has a history of over 500 years and it is one of the most important Ottoman landmarks in Istanbul. It is also a holy place for Muslims, as it houses the tomb of Sultan Eyup, the standard-bearer of Prophet Muhammad, as well as some personal belongings of the Prophet. From the mosque, we will drive to the Pierre Loti Hill, from where one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city can be admired. The Hill is a charming natural site and we will have a break for tea or coffee. After the visit to the Pierre Loti Hill, we will have lunch. For those who are observing Ramadan, the lunch will be replaced with an iftar meal at sunset at one of the restaurants in the city center.
The second part of the day will start with a visit to the Egyptian Bazaar, also known as the Spice Market. One of the most beautiful spectacles of life, a delight of color, smell and sound, this visit will impress you. The bazaar was built back in 1664 and now serves as spice market, with spices, dried fruits, delicacies and an impressive array of fragrances that will reward your senses. You will have some time to shop around and after the bazaar; we will head on to the last activity of the day and also one of the most attractive. A cruise on the Bosporus offers you a unique view of the city, a chance to discover some of its most impressive sights from another perspective. The skyline of Istanbul is one of the most beautiful in the world and for several hours, you will have the chance to relax while watching some unforgettable sights, including Dolmabahce Palace, Ciragan Palace, Maiden´s Tower, Bosphorus bridges, Rumeli and Anadolu Fortresses and Ottoman Residences. DAY 2: Prince’s Islands Tour
Day two of your tour in Istanbul will be dedicated to one of the most enchanting visits you can have from Istanbul, the Prince’s Islands, located close to the Golden Horn area. We will sail to this popular destination and visit its most important landmarks. On these islands, during the Byzantine Empire, many princes and other important personalities have been exiled, while the Ottomans also exiled here several important figures. In recent times, the charm of the islands has drawn many wealthy people from Istanbul to set up mansions and holiday houses here. The beautiful architecture of the settlements is also impressive, with Victorian-style villas and luxurious Ottoman mansions. Most of these landmarks are located on Buyukada (Big Island), including mansions, mosques, churches, and monasteries. On the island, you will move around using a horse-drawn carriage, as all motor vehicles are not allowed there. This will surely be an interesting feature and you will have time to admire the lush and exotic vegetation found on the island.
During the visit to the Prince Islands, you will also have the chance to admire astonishing natural landscapes, as well as the panorama of Istanbul from afar. On the island, you can have lunch if you wish, while the ones observing Ramadan will be offered an iftar meal in Istanbul after sundown. Around 18:00, we will return to Istanbul and you have the option to visit a Turkish Hammam, where you will have the opportunity to relax and replenish your energy. We will then take you back to your hotel or visit a restaurant in Sultanahmet Square to have an iftar meal.
